Liverpool secured a narrow 1-0 win against West Ham at Anfield on Saturday with striker Sadio Mane scoring the winner

Before the match began, fans of both sides displayed and vocalised support for Ukraine amid Russia's invasion of that country

One Liverpool supporter held up a banner referencing the conflict with lyrics of traditional Reds song, You'll Never Walk Alone

Reds' supporters held up an inflatable cat head in response to West Ham defender Kurt Zouma's previous animal abuse

Liverpool forward Mohamed Salah (centre) nearly gave the hosts the lead early on, but Lukasz Fabianski (left) denied him

They eventually nabbed the opener via Senegalese forward Sadio Mane (centre), who turned in Trent Alexander-Arnold's ball

The Africa Cup of Nations winner survived a VAR check which ruled he was marginally onside when the ball was played to him

Colombian winger Luis Diaz (centre) went on a brilliant swerving run but Hammers defender Craig Dawson (right) fouled him

From the resulting free-kick, Alexander-Arnold curled it just wide of the post with Fabianski helpless and rooted to the spot

West Ham midfielder Pablo Fornals (right) went through one-on-one and tried to chip it over Reds goalkeeper Alisson (left)

But full-back Alexander-Arnold raced back to clear acrobatically off the goal-line and retain his side's lead at the interval

Talismanic West Ham winger Jarrod Bowen (centre) then limped off injured, a clear cause for concern for boss David Moyes

Reds manager Jurgen Klopp (right) ruffled his hair as he went off - interesting as Bowen has been linked with an Anfield move

Midfielder Manuel Lanzini (No 10) then missed a golden opportunity to equalise, ballooning his close-range effort over the bar

Moyes was distraught after Lanzini's shocking miss and fell disbelievingly to his haunches with his head in his hands

Klopp fist-pumped animatedly after the final whistle, the German clearly aware of the effect this could have on the title race
