وحسب الشرطة فقد كان المسجد يخضع لعمليات ترميم عندما نشبت فيه النيران، مشيرة إلى أنه تم استدعاء أربعة عمال على الأقل لاستجوابهم.

وفي التفاصيل ، دمر حريق مهول مسجد المركز الإسلامي في العاصمة الإندونيسية جاكرتا، ونالت النيران من قبة المسجد مما أدى إلى انهيارها.

وأفادت وسائل الإعلام الإندونيسية، بأنه تم إبلاغ رجال الإطفاء بشأن الحريق بعد وقت قصير من اندلاعه حيث تم إرسال ما لا يقل عن عشر سيارات إطفاء إلى مكان الحادث.

ولم يُعرف سبب الحريق حتى الآن؛ لكن تقارير إعلامية أشارت إلى أن المركز الإسلامي كان يخضع لأعمال تجديد قبل اندلاع الحريق.
ولم يُصَب أحد في الحريق أو الانهيار الذي أعقب ذلك. وأضافت وسائل إعلام محلية أن الشرطة تحقق في سبب الحريق واستجوبت المقاولين العاملين في المبنى.
