ودع نجوم المنتخب الأرجنتيني جثمان الأسطورة ديجو أرماندو ماردونا وتراكمت الأوشحة والأعلام وقمصان كرة القدم حول التابوت المغطى بالعلم الوطني في أعقابه في القصر الرئاسي يوم الخميس.

وكانت زوجته السابقة كلاوديا فيافانيي وابنتاهما دالما وجانينيا، وصلتا إلى القصر الرئاسي إضافة إلى العديد من اللاعبين الحاليين والسابقين لا سيما زملاؤه الذين رفعوا معه كأس العالم في المكسيك عام 1986.
وكانت الجماهير قد بدأت بالوقوف في صفوف طويلة خارج القصر الرئاسي «كاسا روسادا» لإلقاء التحية الأخيرة على الأسطورة.

واصطف عشرات من المعجبين للتعبير عن احترامهم في الخارج  والذي شهد تواجد النعش في القصر الرئاسي في بوينس آيرس

وكان في مقدمة المودعيين الرئيس الأرجنتيني ألبرتو فرنانديز مع شريكته فابيولا يانيز تابوت

وتم وضع نسخة طبق الأصل من كأس العالم الذي قاد فيها مارادونا الأرجنتين للفوز بالمباراة النهائية لكأس العالم عام 1986 في المكسيك
